I am a walking zombie... How do you distinguish between the overwhelming extreme fatigue of lupus and depression?

With depression you may lose your appetite or having trouble sleeping, staying focus and not wanting to be around or talk to anyone. Fatigue is wanting to sleep and just feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders weighing you down.I've been praying for you,my spirit says it's not just fatigue.Healing prayers, you have my email.Hugs&Blessings.

My friend, sister, lady of hope I know the feeling that you are feeling don't last because you are to strong and I know that you are going through right now because i have went through that same feeling but you can and will get through it , It wont be easy because it's a feeling that you want to keep to yourself the fatigue thing is worst because you don't want to move or do anything, the depression oh my what a feeling it makes you feel that you are all alone and like I said before you don't even want to explain how you are feeling to anyone, But we have to pick ourselves up and gain strength it's not easy and it will take some time but don't give up or give in it will happen if you want to talk then talk if you want to keep it to yourself then keep it to yourself, but it does help to tell us how you feel like you are doing nothing wrong with speaking out. You have so much love especially from your family here at the lupus team and ME...I am going to tell the truth because I have lived it..I love you and I will always be here for you.Your sister in Christ..

Depression is the loss of interest and joy in everything. Ask yourself, if you could wave a magic wand and have all the energy and clarity of mind you desire, is there anything you would want to do? If you come up with an answer, you are not depressed. You are just lupus-worn-out. And, of course, you will feel sad when you keep getting worn out. But sad is not depression. Think of sad as desiring something you cannot have, at least, right now and you may be concern you will never have it. Think of depression as desiring nothing. I know it can be hard to sort out when you are in the worse of it. I think it is important not to fear your sadness. There are griefs us lupies have to process. It is a life changing condition. I wish you courage, patience, and soon some better days. When lupus is really beating me up emotionally, I give myself a day off to be stupid. And, I'm not talking brain fog.

Am I sick because I'm depressed or depressed because I'm sick?

Lupus directly causes depression. If you're flaring for a couple of months, you begin to feel depression and anxiety, it's likely the lupus. At least I react this way.

If you have the simple "blues" and you have lots of pains and aches in your joints and muscles, it's probably the lupus.

If you just feel run down, lacking interest in everything and everyone, feel useless, etc, etc, it's probably depression.

They are so hard to tell apart, @A MyLupusTeam Member.

Here's a good reference about your question. Thanks for reaching out. You know we're all here to help you in anyway we can. Find a good friend to talk to. That really helps. Vent your spleen. Cry it out. I know you're hurting, sweetie.

Your friend,

Tom
